Origins in Glasgow
Founded by William McGeoch, brass founder and marine ship chandler. Castings, fittings and lamps for the Clyde — the trade the company still recognises itself in, nearly two centuries on.
Marine electrical manufacturing established
Birmingham manufacturing at scale, including the RMS Titanic fit-out. The move from founding brass to wiring ships is the one the company has been repeating, in new technologies, ever since.
02 Reinvention
New ownership, power engineering, and the first submarine programmes.
Current ownership era begins
Acquires RTL; consolidates in Birmingham.
Move into power engineering
Acquires William White Switchgear.
Renamed MTL
McGeoch RTL Ltd becomes McGeoch Technology.
Enters UK submarine programmes
Astute-class: panels, lighting, junction boxes. The point at which the company stops supplying ships and starts supplying submarines.
Surface fleet entry
First surface win, Type 45 lighting across six ships. Submarine discipline applied to a destroyer programme.
Lighting range extended
Acquires Westair, broadening the naval lighting portfolio.
Aircraft carrier programme
QEC carriers: lighting, junction boxes, distribution panels. The largest warships ever built for the Royal Navy.
03 Next Generation
Vertical integration and sole-source supply on the deterrent's next generation.
Vertically integrated supplier
All capability in-house, with increased space and added fabrication and machining. Design, build and support under one roof.
Dreadnought enters manufacture
Boat 1 in build; sole-source. The deterrent's next generation carries McGeoch electrical and lighting from the first compartment onward.
Next-generation submarine electrical & lighting
DDQ packages on Dreadnought.
